We did it (for like a year)! Opening a small business in a pandemic was a bold decision (let's hope fortune continues to favors the bold). This past year has been a lot of learning, unlearning, building relationships, and change. I am grateful that I get to be a part of your good days, birthdays, holidays, and bad days.
When I started COMMONS, I knew I wanted to create a shop that would celebrate our community in Corpus Christi, TX, make sustainable and ethical brands more accessible to our community, and create more opportunities for brands lead by locals, womxn, and people of color. Often times it can feel like that it's too lofty of a goal to designate 50% of our shelves to those one or more of those categories, especially in the existing, and previous shortages. Nevertheless, we've fought hard to support creators in our community. Not all of those creators are makers of jewelry or merchandise, we have partnered with many graphic designers and digital creators for campaigns.
Over the last year, we've accomplished a lot:
Thank you for supporting my dream. Thank you for supporting the indie brands I seek out, sharing your friend's brands, or your own brand with me. I look forward to another year of partnering with friends and soon to be friends of the shop.
A little sneak peak of the fun things we have plans for in the coming year: partnering with students at TAMUCC to create a student series, expand in clothing, and most excitedly something created in house!
I'm excited to do another year with y'all <3
